COGNIPODS

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

The idea you had last week or that thought that crossed your mind at the store, or even that dream you’ve had for years. I find them, collect them and... I currently have them, in my lab under observation. Access to the Metaphysical realm was impossible until now. I have invented the Aperioscope (Open Sight) which allows us to peer into the mind while remaining firmly grounded in reality. One particularly chilly morning, I was walking along the Edge of Reason, Aperioscope in hand, when I happened upon a cluster of Cognipods (thought vessel). The more I pondered my find the more popped into existence. Since then I have studied Cognipods, and found them to parallel life created with matter. They reference organic forms such as shells, seeds, cells, and protozoa. They also reflected manmade patterns found in clothing, and armor. Cognipods can be characterized by their protective layers, like sheath organs, and their passive / aggressive defensives, similar to other vessels of life. I can only assume that these similarities exist due to the function of the pods themselves, which is to protect and store a idea within the mind while it absorbs nutrients (information) from its environment, allowing it to grow and potentially bloom into reality. Inspiration can hit at any time, but true inspiration needs to be nurtured. Ideas, like life must be allowed to evolve and develop before birth, this growth is ever present in healthy Cognipods. It is my hope to continue experimentation with Cognipods, focusing on development, connectivism and propagation of these metaphysical life forms.

SEEDS

Displayed in stone beds these Cognipod Seeds will fix snugly in hand. The juxtaposition of textures play with your senses as the visual composition tickles a subconscious memory of the origins of life

GESTATORS

These Conipods have borrowed into compatible nutrient rich environment allowing them to gestate.
The addition of a complex landscape provides a wealth of stimuli that will promote accelerated evolution and development in this series of gestators

MATURE PODS

These larger complex Cognipods have had a chance to grow and evolve. Their protective layers become more substantial as the inner seed becomes more intricate.
